Devonian rocks in Utah are predominately marine limestones formed in warm, shallow seas. These rocks are interbedded with sandstones from sand that washed into the oceans, although some of the sands were also deposited by wind along the shores of this ancient sea. Fossils of sponges, corals, brachiopods, and conodonts are common, along with rare occurrences of primitive jawless and jawed fish. Although this map only indicates the presence of undifferentiated rocks, there are scattered outcrops of Devonian rocks in the western and north-central parts of the state, as shown on the map provided by the Utah Geological Survey.
