Paleontology and geology

Precambrian rocks in Utah are mostly igneous and metamorphic. Chuaria and some other fossils of simple, single-celled organisms have been found in lightly metamorphosed Precambrian rocks in the Uinta Mountains in the northeastern part of the state. The composition of these rocks suggest they were deposited in a marine environment.
