Paleontology and geology

A shallow warm sea covered much of southern and western New Mexico during the Silurian. It deposited a thin layer of dolostone. Brachiopods, corals, ammonites, and other invertebrates flourished in the tropical waters. The dry land to the north left no rock or fossil record.
