Paleontology and geologyTertiary rocks are present only in scattered locations in Indiana and are buried under Quaternary glacial deposits. Most of the rocks from this period are from the Late Tertiary, known as the Pliocene. A significant fossil find from a Tertiary sinkhole has provided evidence of vertebrates such as frogs, turtles, large mammals, birds, and fishes, as well as invertebrates and plants. |
