Paleontology and geology

A hot, arid landscape stretched across Montana throughout most of the Triassic. Terrestrial deposits occur only in southern Montana and have yet to yield a single fossil. However, there were two marine transgressions that crossed the state during the Triassic. Fossils from these marine rocks include brachiopods and ammonites.
