Paleontology and geology

No Triassic rocks are known from surface exposures in Delaware. However, results of tests used by geologists to explore beneath the surface suggest that rocks of this age may lie in deeply buried rift basins under the state. These basins would have formed in a manner similar to the Newark Basin and other east coast rift basins as Pangea broke apart along fault lines. River and lake sediments later filled and eventually buried the basins.
