Paleontology and geology

Although not shown on this map, limited exposures of Cambrian rocks can be found in the White Mountains, Inyo Mountains, and in a few places around Death Valley. These limestones, dolostones, and shales were deposited in the warm waters as a broad, shallow carbonate platform. Archaeocyaths, trilobites, inarticulate brachiopods, early echinoderms, and sponges dominated these shallow warm waters.
