Paleontology and geology

Devonian rocks in the Northeastern Region of Mexico include limestones, sandstones, and shales deposited in the shallow to deep seas. They formed off the coast of Gondwana, which was moving toward Laurentia during this period. Later collisions eventually brought them to what is now Mexico. Over time, many of these rocks have been altered, buried below younger rocks, or eroded away. Exposures of Devonian rocks are too small to appear on this map, but other more detailed maps may show them.
