Paleontology and geology

Throughout the Cambrian, warm, shallow, tropical seas covered the southern half of Saskatchewan. The sediments eroding off the highlands to the north and east were deposited as sandstones, shales, and conglomerates. These rocks are buried under younger rocks, far beneath the surface, and our knowledge of them comes from drill cores. No fossils have been recovered from these Cambrian rocks.
