Paleontology and geology

Ontario remained above sea level throughout the Jurassic, and sediments were only deposited in rivers, lakes, and low-lying areas. Most of the rocks from this period have been removed by erosion or buried underground, but one exposure in central Ontario can still be seen. This thin outcrop of conglomerate, sand, and shale was deposited along the shoreline of a lake in the Middle Jurassic.
