Paleontology and geologyNewfoundland and Labrador remained above sea level during the Cretaceous. Sediments were eroded from the highlands and deposited on the continental shelf to the southeast. There are no rocks from this period on the surface, however, insect and plant fossils have been recovered from sandstones below the surface in western Labrador. And during offshore oil exploration on the Grand Banks, dinosaur bones were encountered by the drills. |
