Paleontology and geology

There are no sedimentary rocks of this age in Hawaii. The Hawaiian Islands are composed almost entirely of lava flows, the oldest of which are just over five million years old and are found on Kauai, the northwest end of the island chain. The youngest flows are found on Hawaii, the southeast end of the island chain. As the rocks are all volcanic, there are no fossils.
