Paleontology and geology

Rocks of this time interval in New Hampshire are entirely metamorphic and igneous and were formed during an episode of mountain building (the Taconic Orogeny). They contain no fossils. Fossil evidence from neighboring states suggests that what is now New Hampshire was covered by a shallow sea during the Ordovician.
