Paleontology and geology

During the Devonian, shallow marine conditions continued to prevail in Texas. Although not shown on this map, Devonian shales, sandstones, limestones, and cherts can be seen in the Marathon Basin and Llano Uplift, but they are rare. Most Texas Devonian rocks are below the surface and can only be found in drill cores.
