Paleontology and geology

Silurian rocks occur at the surface only in the Arbuckle Mountains in the south-central part of Oklahoma. A shallow sea covered all of Oklahoma during much of the Silurian. Brachiopods, trilobites, bryozoans, and crinoids are common fossils in the rocks formed from sediments laid down on the Silurian seafloor.
