Paleontology and geologyPrecambrian metamorphic and igneous rocks can be found in the eastern Piedmont region, a broad geographic area trending northeast-southwest just to the west of Baltimore. Some of these are metamorphosed sedimentary material, but no fossils have been positively identified from these rocks thus far. Drilling has shown that similar rocks lie beneath the much younger sedimentary rocks of the Coastal Plain to the east. |
