Paleontology and geology
The Quaternary is primarily a time of erosion in Oklahoma. Although this map shows only a tiny area of Quaternary rocks exposed in the far southeastern part of the state, other maps indicate sediments of this age along the courses of Oklahoma’s larger rivers. These are sediments being weathered from the landscape and carried away as river and stream deposits. Fossils of wood, clams, snails, horses, camels, bison, and mammoths can be found in these sediments.
