Paleontology and geology

There are no rocks of Precambrian age exposed at the surface in Kentucky. Deep wells show that Precambrian rocks beneath most of the state are igneous and metamorphic. Sedimentary rocks could exist in deep rift zones, but their existence has not been confirmed.
